Hi, I’m Catherine.

Two people who love each other, completely lost inside their own relationship. Individuals who are exhausted from holding everything together. I know that place — because in a lot of ways, I’ve been there too.

You might have insight, self-awareness, a real drive to understand and connect — and still find yourself cycling through the same painful patterns with the people who matter most. My hope is that our work together feels less like fixing what’s broken, and more like finally being understood.

Catherine Robbins-Schumann, LMFT

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

I know where you are: convinced you should be able to figure this out on your own, because figuring things out is what you’re good at. If this speaks to you, whether you found this page for yourself or for your relationship, you’re in the right place.

  • Couples I Work With

Two people who love each other, who are genuinely skilled at understanding relationships, and somehow completely lost inside their own. You might have insight, self-awareness, a real drive to connect — and still find yourselves cycling through the same painful patterns with the person you love most. I take that seriously, and I know how to help you find your way back.

  • Individuals I Work With

I also work with individuals- some of whom are therapists, and all of whom are accomplished, self-sufficient, good at a lot of things, and very good at taking care of others. Yet they are exhausted in ways they rarely verbalize.  My hope is that, as you get curious about the parts of you that have been running the show for a long time, our work together feels less like fixing what is broken, and more like finally being understood, both by yourself, and by the people who matter most to you.

My Approach

My work draws from a few modalities I trust deeply. Internal Family Systems (IFS) helps us understand the different parts of ourselves. Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) gets to the heart of the attachment dance couples get caught in. EMDR is for when the past shows up in the present more often than we’d like.

Why I do this work

I know what it feels like to be not enough and too much at the same time — to feel inadequate and self-critical, and to need help even when helping is what you’re best at. I know where you are, because in a lot of ways, I’ve been there.
